It was nice to wake up to beautiful sunshine on Saturday morning. I was even prepared and had our picnic packed and destination sorted. For quite a while I have wanted to visit the newly refurbished Lodge Forest Visitor Centre in Aberfoyle only and hours drive from Glasgow. Hubby and I love walking and are always looking for simple options for the wee man which takes us away from the play park and off on a real adventure. There are a few options of walks starting from the lodge from 30 minutes to 2 hours and all are clearly way marked. We chose the 30 minute circular waterfall trail which was an easy stroll through the woods to a beautiful waterfall. Along the way you can enjoy what can be best described as a nature play ground using tree trunks, natural water features, dens and tunnels which all kept the wee man entertained along the way. We stopped by the waterfall to do some scrambling and stone throwing before making our way to the animal hide were we spotted a red squirrel. After we were very ready for a lovely picnic with beautiful views over the Scottish hills. The only warning is to be prepared for midges which unfortunately we weren't...ouch!
After our picnic we made our way into Aberfoyle to the Scottish Wool Centre which was very much surprise fun for us all. A lovely place to see lots of different kinds of very noisy sheep and the wee man could not resist but offer them some grass. They have a lovely play area and hubby and I got to enjoy a nice cup of coffee while the wee man played. I even managed to have a wee peek around the shop. We saw birds of prey, funny geese and chickens. Unfortunately there was no dog and duck show but the lady was so friendly and apologetic when I asked about it and as we were not really expecting it it definitely did not spoil the day.
What lovely photos, looks like a grand day out
