Saturday morning and we decide to go and discover Whirlow Hall Farm, a working farm only a 10 minute drive away. One of the things I am definitely enjoying about Sheffield is turning a corner and finding yourself in what feels like deep countryside. The farm do family tours on the weekend while otherwise it is used mainly as an education resource for school groups. It is an educational trust and describes itself as a classroom in the countryside. A great way to learn where your food comes from. It made it not only interesting for the wee man but mummy and daddy as well. We got to see a variety of animals such as ducks, chickens, pigs and horses. Favorite bits was finding the eggs recently laid and learning all about rearing the pigs. There are rabbits and guinea pigs which they allow you to pet but the wee man was not overly convinced. After our tour we enjoyed a lovely lunch in the café and it's a great way to sample the local produce. Of course we visited the shop to take some home with us. Tomorrow it's pancakes with bacon and lots of maple syrup!
