Stanage Edge and Higger Tor, The Peak District

Having the peak district a mere 15 minutes drive away has seriously huge advantages. No tiring long drives to enjoy the countryside. We can stay out for a morning or nip out in the afternoon. You don't have to worry too much about food and packing loads even though the nearby pubs are often tempting. On Saturday we went for a walk along Stanage Edge and then up the Higger Tor. There are lots of different starting points depending on what you want to do. We parked at upper burbage bridge and did the edge first before walking up Higger Tor. Another popular starting point is the Fox House Inn. It's a stunning walk with beautiful views of the moors. Both the edge and Higger Tor are great for bouldering and the wee man had a blast jumping among the rocks and clamouring up them when he could. It offered a nice break up of the walk which was perfect for the wee man. It is a very popular area for climbers and I can see my wee man there in the future. We did not walk along all of the edge as we knew it would be too much for him and figure it would make a perfect walk on it's own another day. After we treated ourselves to a yummy pub lunch in Hathersage before heading home.
