Up and Down on the balance bike

We were back at the skate park on our balance bike. The wee man has definitely got the balancing down and can coast pretty far on the bike. I have never been so much worried about speed or hills but admiring his technique which I hope holds him in good stead when we consider getting him learning to ride a bicycle. We only go to the skate park at quiet times so he can coast about in the middle and not worry about getting in any of the "big boys" way. When it comes to hills he has always been a bit wary and today he never wanted to even try the ones at the skate park. We had a little chat about taking his time and just putting his feet down when he wanted to stop. He actually did not need too much convincing and he took his time but once he got into a rhythm he started enjoying himself going up and down.

Tollcross Park

On Thursday we went to visit Tollcross Park. It has a very small Children's Farm with a small selection of animals including some ponies, ferrets, chickens, goats, rabbits and a pig who was hiding from us. It was just enough for me to realise that the wee man is apparently scared of chickens. To be fair it was the rooster who was making a lot of noise and then when the turkey joined in well the wee man went running!

This visitor centre attached to it though was great. The wee man loved the selection of puzzles and books about animals to different small interactive displays. Actually I had to beg him to go for a walk so we could explore the park further.

We quickly gathered a selection of sticks and with lots of space the wee man was happy once again. The grounds of the park were actually quite beautiful. It was a bit sad to see that the Winter Gardens was closed and has been for a while. It had what seemed to be a really nice secret garden attached to it too but the gate was padlocked. We found our way to the play park and with that there was certainly enough there to keep my wee man entertained for a morning.

Give a child a stick

We went on a play date to our new fave spot Queens Park. We played at the play park, visited the animals, had some lunch and ventured into the soft play. We went out for more fresh air and got stuck. The boys found lots of sticks which had fallen from the trees to keep them busy. Give a child a stick and stand back and watch the fun. Admittedly there were times we had to watch our heads! Thank goodness it was quiet and that was a fight we could avoid for another day.

A breath of fresh air

When I asked the wee man what he wanted to do yesterday he seemed pretty happy just to stay inside and do lots of different arts and crafts activities (I'm secretly becoming a pro) and play with his birthday toys. Sporting a snotty nose I figured he was not feeling that well and just could not face the outdoors. We avoided the TV all morning so I was not too fussed. After his nap though his first question was to ask me where we were going? He then suggested all the places I had mentioned in the morning which unfortunately we would be a little late for. He settled for taking his bike to the park and having a proper little play. Daddy came a long as well and as you can see took charge of the camera by the end. Mummy therefore got some proper play time herself.
