Celebrating Nonna's Birthday

This Sunday was Nonna's birthday. So after church we treated ourselves to a lovely lunch which was technically high tea. As it was a celebration we even got it with a glass of prossecco! It was yummy sandwiches and cake. Needless to see my wee man pretty much had cake for lunch. We went for a long walk after while the wee man snoozed popping in and out of local shops in the West End of Glasgow. We finally ended up at the Kelvingrove Art Galleries and Museum and were surprised with a live orchestral performance. A pretty well rounded day I would say and I think Nonna enjoyed herself.

Our Specialized Hotwalk Balance Bike

The wee man's Italian nonno has a love of cycling and it is something that he had always wanted to share with his grandson. Needless to say we were all really pleased that he enjoyed when his Nonno took him out for bicycle rides when we were last in Italy. It was not long then before the question was when can he get his own bike! Hubby had read up on balance bikes and we had seen them about and it sounded like a great way to start.

It is the best birthday gift we have given our wee man ever! He has taken to it so quickly. Each day he is on it he picks up a little bit more speed. It sometimes looks like hard work to me but apparently it is fun! He will certainly be getting lots of exercise as he uses it! (Note: It should come with a bit of health and safety advice in that it can be a bit back breaking when you help to push him about and there will be some point where you end up carrying it!) He calls it his "Vroom vroom". Whenever we are heading out the house he asks "Vroom?" It is obviously a great tool for getting him out of the house but thankfully that has never been a problem anyway. There is also no place that a balance bike cannot go according to my wee man as we have done some serious off roading. Considering all we have been doing these days has been going out and about on our bike I'm not sure I will be able to take a picture of my wee man again not on his balance bike!

Beach bum

So we made it to the beach twice in Jamaica. I think we quickly realised it was worth doing things twice with the wee man as he seemed to always get more out of it the second time around. We visited Fort Clarence Beach which is just a 30 minute drive from home beside Hellshire.

He was excited when he saw all the water of the sea the first time but was maybe not too sure about the movement of the waves. There was lots of curiosity about the sand between his toes though and he quickly got the hang of filling and emptying his bucket with it. I used the excuse of playing with the sand to get him closer to the water and it worked to the point where he was happy to get his feet wet though the depths were not that attractive.

Well the second visit Nana was amazed when he just walked with her straight into the water.

Of course the arm bands were immediately shouted for and before I knew it he was crashing about in those waves like a seal. Nana was laughing hilariously as they were both knocked about. There were times when his feet were not even touching the ground.

He then let go of our hands and was running in and out of the water, kicking his feet in the sea. There was serious risks of getting my camera wet as I tried to capture it all. It was like once he was out of the water it just called to him to get back in again. He was tossed in the waves at points, water rising above his head, but up he got laughing ready to go again.

It's now fact! I have got a toddler beach bum!
